Udupi, May 27: “There is a plan to convert Kaup gram panchayat into town panchayat and Padubidri and Katapady into municipal council,” said newly-elected urban development and Udupi district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.

He was addressing media persons in Katapady. “In the limits of Kaup and Padubidri there is sufficient population and there is opportunity to convert these into town panchayat. There is also a proposal to bring Udyavar gram panchayat under the limits of the municipal council, and there is a possibility of Udyavar becoming a municipal council if the representatives and people wish so. For the complete development of Kaup Vidhana Sabha constituency, a project schedule has been planned. Hence, this issue will be discussed with various departmental officers,” added Sorake.

“The work on the National Highway is slowly progressing and frequent road accidents occur and ruin many lives. An order has been passed to speed up the work. The aim is to complete the work before the monsoon. The issue will be discussed with different officers soon. The facility of 108 ambulance will be discussed with the health department and police department,” he added.

Answering Siddaramaiah’s statement about including Udupi Shri Krishna Temple into the government’s fold, Sorake said that there is no such proposal. “There is no confusion in this matter. The previous government has created much confusion about religious centers. Rich people and trustees have been appointed to the trust. Even people were dissatisfied with this and hence, we will correct the mistakes of the previous government and if necessary we will change the trustees,” he added.
