Mangalore: NEST felicitates J R Lobo, urges for hostel, security

Mangalore, May 28: North East Students Team (NEST), a unit of Sparsh Youth Counseling Center, Mangalore felicitated J R Lobo, for his victory from Mangalore South Constituency in the recent state assembly election, here on Sunday May 27.

The members of NEST appealed to the newly elected legislator for better protection and construction of a hostel for the students of North East community in Mangalore.

Speaking to J R Lobo, the students urged him to set up a hostel for the student community of north east under government schemes. Non-availability of North-Eastern food was also an issue that was brought to the notice of J R Lobo.

In addition, there are many schemes provided by the central government especially for the welfare of the North East and tribal community. The students requested to ensure that the community residing in the city should be able to enjoy those intended benefits, they said.

In response, J R Lobo said, “Mangalore is an educational hub. Students from across the country and abroad come here to study. We will ensure a homely atmosphere for them. We will also look into safety aspects and provide protection for the people who come from other cities. I will talk to the chief minister about the hostel facility."

Former president of NEST Adarsh, present vice president Dorjee Khandu Jebisow, Sparsh members Doodle Basumatary, Rwmuri Bajlary, Jwngsima Daimari, Lakshmi Athokpam, Saitha Chanu, Jyoti, Romita Chani, Walmitchi among others took part in the felicitation ceremony.

Director Denis D’Silva, executive member Gretta D’Mello, corporator Mahabala Marla and Naveen D’souza were present at the programme.
