Mangalore, Jun 3: Karnataka minister for municipalities and local bodies, department of public enterprises, as well as minorities welfare, Haj and Wakf departments, Qamarul Islam, stated that the reservation criteria for the municipal administrations and other local bodies in the state are being finalized, and that the list will be released within a week.

He also informed the press persons in the city, that he had signed papers for the release of Rs 58.72 crore towards drinking water projects.

Informing that a Haj Bhavan is being constructed at present at Bangalore, he said that the department of Haj and Wakf proposes to build such Haj Bhavans in Mangalore, Gulbarga, and Hubli in the coming days. The department, he said, also has plans to build such a facility for every region with a radius of about 250 km, at the rate of one for every five or six districts. “Haj Bhavans will be used for providing trainings to Haj pilgrims, holding Haj camps, and for holding functions and meetings connected with this pilgrimage,” he explained.

He informed that the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district will finalize the site for the construction Haj Bhavan in the city, and that land near Tokur and Kenjar have been identified for the purpose.

He asserted that the Congress will ensure that all the promises it had made in the manifesto are met. He also said that the order passed by former chief minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, ordering an inquiry into a politically motivated report on the issue of protection of Wakf properties submitted by former president of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, has been set aside. He strongly supported setting up of Tippu University as proposed by union minister, Rahman Khan, at Srirangapatna, adding that this university will also have 50 percent quota for other minorities.

President of Karnataka Wakf Board, R Abdul Riaz Khan, member, Y Muhammed Kunhi, Dakshina Kannada district Wakf Board president, Usman Haji, member of Central Coir Board, T M Shahid, and former MLA, K Vijay Kumar Shetty, were present at the press conference.
