Mangalore, Jun 4: Dakshina Kannada district health officer, Dr O R Srirangappa, said that house to house visits will be undertaken for a week between June 10 and 15, towards bringing under control communicable diseases like dengue, malaria, and other diseases which are spread by insects.

Addressing a press conference at the office of the health department here on Monday June 3, he said that a meeting of people’s representatives, religious leaders, officials of women and child development department, and education department, will be convened before June 7 to discuss the issue of regulating these diseases. He also said that anti-malaria month will be observed till June 30, under which various programmes will be undertaken.

“As part of the said movement, health assistants and activists under ‘Asha’ scheme will visit every house, and spread knowledge about stopping the diseases at their origins. A meeting of private doctors, heads of medical colleges etc was conducted, and the concerned were requested to effectively handle testing and treatment of dengue cases,” he added.

He said that as per records, 67 dengue positive cases were reported from the district, out of which 30 were from government hospitals, and the remaining from private hospitals.

He gave the symptoms of dengue as unbearable pain in bones and eyes, fever which may extend for a week with a reduction in body temperature for a couple of days in between, reduction in blood platelet count, etc.
