Mangalore, Jun 4: ‘World Milk Day-2013’ and felicitation of Nandini milk dealers, organized by Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd (DKMUL) was held on Tuesday June 4 on the city dairy premises.

The programme was inaugurated with a ‘Go Puja’ performed to the cows and lighting of the auspicious lamp.

Dr O R Srirangappa, district health and family welfare officer, Vasudeva Rao, former director, Mangalore International Airport, and Bhaskar K Moily, corporator, were the chief guests at the formal stage programme that was organized after the inauguration. Raviraj Hegde, president, DKMUL, presided over the function.

The Nandini product dealers who had the highest rate of sales during 2012-13 were honoured with special gifts and certificates by the chief guest.

In his presidential address, Raviraj Hegde said that earlier, India ranked 16th in milk production but now it is at first place in milk yielding. “India has had success in the milk revolution by producing 127 milli metric tones of milk a year. India, which once used to import milk powder has now shocked the developed nations by producing 17 percent of the total world’s milk production. Hence, the true purpose of celebrating World Milk Day is fulfilled,” he added.

“Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has nearly 4,700 active members. More than Rs 200 crore has gone to the milk yielding rural people from the people in the cities. KMF has been successful in supplying 3,30,000 liters of milk every year.

"Farmers, associations, customers, and federations are the four wheels of KMF. The achievement of KMF is nil without these four main aspects. Our health officers and government health officers have been giving the best immunity to the cows for the benefit of the farmers, hence we are able to give the best quality products to our customers,” said Hegde.

Dr B V Sathyanarayan, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, B Niranjan, A Jagadish Karanth, Dr K M Krishna Bhat, K P Sucharitha Shetty, M Rama Bhat, and H Mukund Nayak of DKMUL were present on the dais.
