Bhatkal: SIO starts educational awareness campaign

Media Release

Bhatkal, Jun 5: Students Islamic Organization's Bhatkal unit has started an educational campaign in the town to inculcate the interest and passion for education among students, parents and especially the backward and underdeveloped section of the society.

The campaign started with a function on Friday June 1 in which several intellectuals presented their views about the importance of education and development of character.

Speaking to the gathering, chief executive of Jamaate Islami's Bhatkal branch Moulana Zubair SM said that education is the most important sector which we need to develop and enhance. Pointing out a major false move, we are spending on less important sectors rather than spending on important sectors like education. He said that SIO spends 2 lakhs annually to enhance and empower education in the community. SIO will continue its work and keep on helping the talented minds of the community, he said.

Chief guest of the function professor Abdur Raheem Khan (department of English, Anjuman PU college) also addressed the audience and stressed on the importance of parent's role in their children's education. He said that the absence of ethics and moral values was the reason why the education was not giving out the required results. Lauding the 30 years long efforts of SIO, professor Khan said that the aim of education should be to understand Allah's will and carry it on. He also stressed on the importance of a good student-teacher relationship and respect of parents.

Professor Abdur Rawoof Savannur (lecturer, department of Urdu, Anjuman PU College) also addressed the gathering and said that the practical models of value based education and character development which existed in Islam can be found nowhere. He said that simply knowledge cannot make a human with sound character, but knowledge with moral values and the intent of benefiting others while obeying Allah created a true human. Describing SIO's past efforts professor Savannur said that the organization had done much to inculcate value based education in the country. He asked the parents and students to explore the other educational fields rather than sticking to the same one. He also appealed to the parents to refrain from providing their children with gadgets which may divert them from studies.

The function started with the recitation of verses from the holy Quran by Umar Usaim , SIO president Moulana Ziya ur Rahman welcomed the gathering and presented a short introduction SIO.

Nazeef Manegar managed the function while Syed Yusuf delivered the vote of thanks.

A number of local people and several others attended the function.
