Indians in Saudi Arabia asked to get final exit visa

Dubai, Jun 30 (PTI): India has asked its nationals living in Saudi Arabia, who have received their Emergency Certificates (ECs), to get their final exit visa immediately from the Saudi authorities.

The Indian embassy in Riyadh said that it has completed the process of issuing ECs to all those applicants who have verified their personal particulars with the mission.

The new Saudi labour law called 'Nitaqat' makes it mandatory for local companies to hire one Saudi national for every 10 migrant workers.

As a result, a number of people from foreign countries who were working without valid work permits and runaways have come under the scanner.

The Indian embassy has been issuing Emergency Certificates to such nationals to enable them to leave Saudi Arabia.

"All applicants who have submitted their EC applications in Dammam or nearby cities may collect their ECs from Indian International School, Dammam by June 30," the embassy said.

"In case they cannot collect their ECs by that day, they may visit Embassy of India, Riyadh on July 1 to collect the same," it added.

Embassy officials deployed at various labour offices in Riyadh and Dammam and at Riyadh Airport will continue to be available at these places in the coming weeks.

As of May 20, 75,000 Indians had registered with the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah to be processed and be send back with 'emergency certificate'. There are over two million Indians in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, in view of the decision by Saudi Arabia to shift the weekend to Friday and Saturday, the Indian embassy too will observe working day from Sunday to Thursday starting July 1. Friday and Saturday will be holidays in consonance with the Saudi official working days.

    Blaan Mendonca,
Its waste arguing or understanding the core factors as I can make out your knowledge in your last comment.
    1. I never knew or no one never knew suzuki, honda, bmw, mercedes, hail from USA
    2. I never said that I send all my earnings to donate, understand the fact first, majority of people from gulf spend money (vacation/through lifetime investment) in India instead having lost in maimi beach. Thus generating business as well as paying indirect taxes on all expenses.
    3. we invest and we do it for life time not like FDI a coward, first one to run when RS weak or BSE sees a slight correction.
Okay let me conclude instead wasting my time. Coming to very core subject, (hope you can understand), as per world bank report..(Not Gulf Report!) NRI remittances were $66.13 billion against an FDI inflow of $46.84 billion.(yr2011-12)remittances into Indian account for around 4% of the Indian GDP. This being much higher than the foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into India by a wide margin. Year 2012 is 70 billion Dollars is remittances received. These are the two years where recession is still on around the world. you can double check by your own www.Google.com so MR Overseas Citizens of India / INDO- American as you say FDI is doesn’t make much difference then making Indian economy worst.

Rohan, why do not reply your point of view under Blaan Mendonca's reply. So you both can argue about your views. You are right where you at and he is right where he is at. I lived in Gulf & USA. Blaan, never said Honda, Suzuki, BMW, Mercedes, etc. from USA but he said they are from Western countries. Again you should not insult other Indians who are living in USA. We live in USA but still we love Mangalore/India.

Mr.Rohan Lobo, Dubai You have a very poor knowledge of remittance and Foreign Investment. You are sending money to India to your home for your own purpose, it does not mean that you are donating all your hard earned money to the development of the Indian economy. The way you are explaining is as if you are contributing all your hard earned money to the Indian Government for the development of the Indian economy.

You have no idea how many Indo-Americans are investing money in India and how many Indo-Americans are paying taxes for the income earned in India.

You are again wrong that every Indian who moves to USA becomes a US Citizen.
Again majority of the foreign investment to India comes from western countries. Where did Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, 7-up, etc all these come from. What about Toyota, Suzuki, Cheverlotte, Mercedes, Ford, Nissan, BMW, Honda come from. Are these from Gulf countries.
Even though we are from USA we pay income Tax in USA for the income earned in India. As an USA Citizen we do have PAN Card as Well as AADAR Card as we are Overseas Citizens of India. Therefore we respect the Indian Banks or the Bankers, even though we are NRE Account holders in India.

Mr. Ronald Lobo, Dubai People from Gulf must have a good attitude and behavior then to behave like Camels in the dessert and use the word Kalliwalli. India does not depend on NRI remittances anymore but Indian depends on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to develop the Indian infrastructure and economy and sustain the falling ruppee against all the world economies.

The 55'C temperature must be inside your home. According to UAE law you are not supposed to work when the temperature is at 50'C. Even in USA there are cities in southwest with soaring temperatures like dubai.

I agree with you fully.People who migrate to US/Canada/UK have a supeiority complex and feel the NRIs in the gulf are second class citizens. I also agree as a banker I have seen the actual contribution from NRIs from Gulf are much more than from other countries. Also the remiitance sent by NRIs from US/UK/Canada are not because they love their country but mainly because the interest rates are higher compared to their country and additionally they wait for fall in rupee so that they can earn windfall profits.

Repatriation of tens of thousands of Indian expatriates back to their home on account of the newly imposed regulations due to the "Nitaqat" movement is not an easy task to accept. It not only affects individuals going back home after a tenure of hard work and rewarding work abroad but also impacts all their dependents who have been relying upon their monthly consistent remittances.

The government as well as people of India should therefore try and help those returning expatriates in whichever special way possible by moulding those unfortunate ones to re-adjust their lives with whatever available opportunities. The families of each individual have a special role to play by trying to appreciate the circumstances that have led them to return home and extend them a hand of support.

We all have a duty to adjust ourselves in our own minds and hearts that the current situation throughout the Middle East is turning into more delicate and volatile circumstances than ever before. Situations taking place in Egypt, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and even in Pakistan and Afghanistan need our careful thoughts and prayers thru a spirit of empathy. Countries such as Saudi Arabia therefore have to be vigilant of all the sensitive factors that lie ahead for all the blessings God has bestowed upon them thru the gift of Oil. Saudi Arabia cannot afford any kind of virus spreading into their nation that is helping every nation by being cautious.

India as a nation therefore has to standby with Saudi Arabia and understand the situation that lies beneath all the delicate factors that surround them so that they remain shielded with all the internal as well as external calamities that are ahead of them. May God help us all in our hour of need. That's all we can say - Qudha Afeiz

Rakesh, UPA or BJP has nothing to do with such problems. It is better to come out of such attitude and cheap mentality. It is the failure of local system. Now there is a good news for my two friends ( who were struggling since a month after two rejections at the airport to travel ).Today they approached the Saudi Labour office in Riyadh, and they have been assured of clearing all the matters. Insha Allah they will be travelling in a day or two. Only after their departure, we can be assured of their exit. Pray for them.
One more thing Mr Rakesh BJP could not give justice to Sikh riot victims during their 6 years rule, THEN WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM BJP.
And you are expecting the stranded Indians to travel after 2014.
I wish you / your relatives / your friends should have been part of these stranded Indians. then only you will feel the pinch.
For your information Indian embassy officials and other organisations have done EXCELLENT job on THEIR PART to issue emergency certificates to the Indians in distress and also they distributed 15,000 Passports handed over to them by the Saudi sponsors. Saudis were keeping the passports with them and falsely reporting to the authorities that Indians are absconding ( even if the person is in front of them ). Hope this explains to you how the Indians are trapped here.

    Dear Blaan Mendonca, USA,
Your comment is like peculiar American mentality. We who work in gulf contribute to Indian economy by sending all our savings back home. We spend our saving in India instead spending in abroad. Thus we always give contribution to Indian economy in every aspect. We don’t have opportunity to get citizenship even-though we work here to earn a moderate salary at 55'c soaring temperature. I know every Indian who left to USA get citizenship and 90%of them spend all his earning and invest in USA. Most of them never visit again India at least once in 5 years. As per World Bank Report 2012 India only received close to 75 billion NRI remittances thus making a robust contribution to Indian GDP. Let me also give you clear figures about how much GULF contributed in this, It’s More than 70% of the total Remittance received. So MR. USA better know the facts before you say something and of course we have right to say kalliwalli to a banker if we don't get treated in a nice manner.

In America very few people get 1 month leave, even if they get month paid leave they have to use it for personal/family needs such as kids education, sickness or pleasure. Whatever people earn in USA they do not save they pay taxes and spend it and some send to their family. Finally, who wants to travel 30 hours on flight with young kids to India instead they take vacation within the country. This is just for your info about USA Indians.

Indians who live in Gulf countries do not pay Income Taxes. When they come to India they need special status at the NRE counter in the Banks. When they are asked to show their PAN Card or Identity Card or Passport Copies they act so rude. They say Kalliwalli, we are NRI's we need better service or cancel our Account. We will go to ICICI bank where they treat us well. If they do not pay Income Taxes what do they expect from the Indian Government Embassy or Indian Government Consulates. How can they expect better services without paying anything for the development of the country. Let the Non-Resident Indians pay Indian Government Income Taxes and let them have better services at the embassies or consulates.

It is general lethargic attitude of our govt staff!! It is not big difference in India too! Most govt employees feel that is the way to work when they get salary from Govt. Be it state or Central!! Rakesh Shetty, if you are govt employee you too will do the same. Otherwise trde unions will kill you!
