Mangalore, Jul 2: “In order to protect the interests of small and medium newspaper publications including tabloids, the government should ensure appropriate measures. Thus, the state should support the oppressed journalists,” said senior journalist Ismail Shafi.

He was addressing journalists during the ‘Press Day’ celebration organized by the Editor’s Club, Dakshina Kannada, on Monday July 1.

“The government does not provide any subsidy, incentives, rewards, or state advertisements to small newspapers. The government must look into this”, Shafi added.

Literati Kallachu, Mahesh R Nayak, and senior reporter Ganghadhar Piliyar were present on the occasion.

President Iqbal Kuthar welcomed and M J Rao proposed the vote of thanks.
