Sullia: Body of youth found floating in pond

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Jul 3: The body of a youth was found floating in a pond at Mulya near Ajjavar in the taluk on Tuesday July 2. It is guessed that Dayanand (29), son of Sadashiva Rao from Mullya in Ajjavar village, who had visited Sullia on Monday, would have slipped and fallen into the pond when walking by its side on Monday night.

A number of ponds line up a narrow path which leads to Peralu from Kanthamangala through Mulya. Most of the people here use this route to reach the town.

Dayanand had left home with his brother, Kripashankar, on Monday morning to work in Sullia. By the time he returned late evening, it was pitch dark.  The sides of this particular pond had suffered landslide sometime back, and a temporary fence had been erected there. It is thought that Dayanand could not properly see the path while walking, and slipped into the pond.

Dayanand is survived by parents, and a brother. Locals have asked the concerned to provide protective wall to all these ponds lining this narrow path to avoid recurrence of such accidents in future.
