Mangalore, Jul 4: Advocate from the city, Purushottam Poojary, who appeared in the court as a witness in a case relating to the murder of a lawyer, Naushad Kashimji, at the third additional district and sessions court here on Wednesday July 3, sought the court’s permission to include names of four police personnel as accused in the case.
Young lawyer, Naushad Kashimji, was killed on Sturrock Road at Falnir in the city on the night of April 9, 2009, near his home. The police had arrested 12 persons in the case and named them as accused. Out of these, four continue to be in judicial custody.
The advocate alleged that four police officials had executed the plan to kill Kashmiji through the first three accused, Dinesh Shetty, Pratap Shetty, and Rithesh. He therefore sought to add the names of police officers, Venkatesh Prasanna, Valentine D’Souza, Jayant B Shetty, and Shivaprakash, to the list of persons accused in the case.
An application in this respect had been made by Purushottam Poojary earlier to the police department, but the policemen had refused to entertain this application. The court received the petition now filed, and posted the objections made by the public prosecutor against this petition for hearing on July 17.
So far, examination of 15 out of 84 witnesses in the case has been completed.
