Bangalore: Konkani Kulvar hold first annual meeting

Bangalore, Jul 4: The first annual general body meeting of Konkani Kulvar – Bangalore was held at Cambridge Road, Ulsoor, on June 30.

The meeting began at 11:15 am with a prayer song, thanking God for his blessings and guidance during the elapsed year, followed by a welcome address by Lawrence d’souza, an executive committee member.

The dignitaries were escorted to the stage and presented with floral bouquets. This was followed by lighting of traditional lamp by the spiritual director of Konkani Kulvar  Fr V J Menezes, guest carmelite priest  Fr Richard Menezes followed by the president, secretary and the treasurer.

President Dr Ajith Benedict Rayan in his presidential address focussed on the objectives of the association and the achievements, particularly the membership of almost 100 members in a short period. Thanked the sponsors, patrons and donors and all achievers in academic and music field.

KK secretary, Richard Lewis in secretary’s report read out the achievements of kk over the year, namely monthi festh celebration, kk picinic, kk participation in platinum jubilee of our lady of lourdes church, hosting of KK website. He invited the youth to come forward and participate in KK cultural events in the years to come.the report was approved by the members.

Treasurer Marian D'Souza read out the receipts and payments for the year ended March 31, which was approved by the members.
Patrons, donors, guest priests and all students who excelled in X and XII standard final examinations were honoured. The priests were honoured with a shawl and a garland; whereas the student achievers were honoured with a memento and certificate signed by kk president and secretary.

A special mention was made of young musician  Bryden Stephen Lewis, who is currently a member of “Raghu Dixit group” and has achieved so much in such a small age.

Speaking on the occasion reverend fatheres emphisized on the use of konkani, our mother tongue, whenever and wherever possible, especially in the family and with friends.  They admonished to teach konkani to the children when they are young as our duty towards our mother tongue. They also quoted examples of our new Pope Francis of his simple and humble nature and to follow his example in our life.

This was followed by cultural programme – traditional, evergreen yester - year Konkani songs were sung by Marian D’souza and Bernadette Lewis to the generous applause of the audience. A bharatnatyam recital was performed by 9 year old talented Anika Rodrigues which was appreciated by all.

Bryden lewis and Fallon Miranda sang a brand new song from his untitled Konkani album. Games for women and men were conducted by Ivy Menezes. Valuable gifts were handed over to the winners. At the end housie game was conducted by Richard D’souza and Marian D’souza.

Vote of thanks was given by executive member Richard D’souza and thanked all those who contributed to the success of KK meeting and the attended memebrs.

At the end a sumptous lunch was provided to the members and the guests.

The programme was ably conducted by Nelson D’souza and Richard D’souza.

    weldone and cong, to all kk members. thanks to marian dsouza that he keeps the konkani spirit and people under one umbrella. he is a good leader from pernal. god bless all.
