Udupi, Jul 5: Owing to poverty and ill-health an 18-year-old girl committed suicide at Kemmannu on Friday 5 July.

Speaking to daijiworld, Jayanth M, Malpe PS, said that the girl has been identified as Deepashree, a first year B Sc student at the government college in Garadi Majal. The incident took place in the morning between 7 am to 9:30 am.

The reason for her drastic step was her health and mental condition. She was diagnosed with Kidney stones and from the past few months has also been suffering from memory loss.

Medication was provided for her illnessess but poverty led her to make such a firm decision to end her life. Sources stated that she was a bright student and her memory loss created a hindrance for her.

Police said that there is no other such reason for her to committ suicide.

Her parents were out to meet a lawyer in the morning and she was alone at home, on their return back her mother found the girl hanging; with a sari around her neck.

A complaint has been lodged at the Malpe station.
