Kasargod: Van rams into pedestrians, two killed

Kasargod, Jul 6:
Two persons were killed on the spot after a pick-up van ran over them as they were walking on the footpath at Karivelloor National Highway on Friday July 5. The incident took place around 6.30 am near Karivelloor Pallikkavil bus stand.

The deceased have been identified as P V Gopalan (70) of Theruvu, Karivelloor, and T V Lakshmi (60), wife of M Aambu.

The pick-up van was plying from Badiyadka towards Kannur and transporting chickens. While trying to overtake another speeding vehicle, the van driver lost control, crashed into an electronic pole, and rammed into the pedestrians.

The accident occurred as the two were on their way to fetch milk.

The police have taken van driver P Mohhammed (24) and Manoj (27) of Urdoor, Kasargod, into custody. They were caught by the locals while attempting to abscond from the scene soon after the accident.
