Mangalore, Jul 9: State minister for youth services and fisheries, Abhaychandra Jain, has reiterated his resolve not to allow the proposed thermal power project to come up at Niddodi village near Moodbidri.

“I was one among the first people’s representatives to announce opposition to this project. I am committed to this stand even now,” he asserted, reacting to questions raised by newspersons at the inaugural of government programmes at Kemral village.

“In 2011, a proposal to set up thermal power plant in 200 acres of forest land at Niddodi had been sent to the central government under ‘Udyog Mitra’ scheme. The officials have confirmed that the ground reality was not explained to either the then chief minister or the current chief minister. The people of this region are decidedly against this project. I am with the people, and I will discuss the issue with the chief minister threadbare to ensure that the project does not come up. I am against mixing politics in issues relating to larger interests of the people,” he explained.

Jain also said that he will meet the union power minister to convince him to shift the project elsewhere.
