Bhatkal: Ramadan begins across coastal part of state

Bhatkal, Jul 10: The month of Ramadan began across the coastal Karnataka region and Kasargod on Wednesday July 10 with the sighting of the new moon at Navunda on Tuesday July 9 night.

After a brief conference,the Qazi of Jamatul Muslimeen Bhatkal Moulana Mulla Mohammed Iqbal Nadwi and the Qazi of Khalifa Jamatul Muslimeen Bhatkal, Moulana Khwaja Madani Nadwi officially declared the start of the month of Ramadan.

The 'Taraweeh' (special night prayers) will begin in mosques all over Bhatkal.

The Qazi of Udupi, Moulana Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar confirmed that the new moon was sighted at Navunda in Udupi.

Hazy weather conditions delayed the declaration of the first day of Ramadan.
