Udupi: Repayment notice on brother’s loan – man commits suicide

Udupi, Jul 10: A man, who had offered guarantee for a loan raised by his younger brother from a bank, committed suicide after the bank served notice of repayment on him. Vasanth Prabhu  (52) from Hirebettu here, ended his life by hanging himself at his residence on Monday July 8 evening.

Prabhu had agreed to be a gurantor for the loan raised by his younger brother. However, after raising the loan, his younger brother suddenly breathed his last about two years back. Being a guarantor, Prabhu was responsible for the clearance of the entire loan raised by his younger brother. The bank, accordingly, had served notice on him to repay the overdue loan.

The policemen of Manipal station said that Prabhu chose to commit suicide as he was very much disturbed mentally by this development. They have registered a case of unnatural death.
