Bangalore: High Court cancels appoint of Law University dean

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jul 10: Through an order passed on Tuesday July 9, the state high court cancelled the appointment of G R Jagadish as the dean of Karnataka Law University. It has also instructed the university to make a new appointment to the post within three weeks.

The appointment of Jagadish was questioned by P D Sebastian of SDM Law College, Mangalore. Judge of the bench, Justice L Narayana Swamy, upheld the petition and held the said appointment as illegal.

Advocate for the petitioner, Sudhakar Pai, who appeared in the high court on behalf of the petitioner, argued that while appointing Jagadish to the post, the university had overlooked the norm of seniority, thus violating the rules governing appointments in universities.
