Udupi, Jul 12: In a laudable gesture, Tulu Koota Kuwait donated an ambulance to Udupi district Nagarika Samiti at a ceremony held at Rajangana, Shree Krishna Math here on Friday July 12.

The programme was inaugurated by Madhwesh Tantri of Paryaya Sode Vadiraja Math. He handed over the keys of the ambulance to Nithyanand Volakkadu, general secretary of district Nagarika Samiti, which will provide and maintain the ambulance service for public use.

Volakkadu said that the service will be provided free for the poor and needy, and the ambulance will function within a radius of 10 km around Udupi. "Importance will be given to accident and emergency cases only," he said.

Congress leader Ivan D’Souza, who was the chief guest, said that state government is giving more importance to ambulance services. "This apart, if a private organization like Tulu Koota Kuwait extends its services, it will solve all problems related to emergency cases that people face."

Udupi tahsildar Abhijin said that any help extended to meet educational needs and healthcare is holy. "Here Tulu Koota Kuwait is helping the poor in healthcare, which is really appreciative," he said.

Tulu Koota Kuwait president Ramesh Kidiyoor, parish priest of Udupi Mother of Sorrows Church Fr Wilson D’Souza , Jamia Masijid Udupi president T S Budan Basha, Yaspal Suvarna, Purushotham Shetty, Nagesh Hegde, Sarala Kanchan were present.
