Bantwal: Teacher from Kukkaje dies in Bijapur accident

Bantwal, Jul 15: Shekhu Naik (38), serving as a teacher at the government higher primary school in Manchi-Kukkaje here, died in an accident which occurred near a railway gate in Hindi Road of Bijapur district on the night of Saturday July 13. He was the pillion rider of a motor bike being driven by his cousin, Prem Singh Rajput, working in police department at Bangalore.

Shekhu Naik had joined service in 2002, and served Bolantoor higher primary school in the taluk for nine years, before being transferred to Kukkaje school last year. It is gathered that he was teaching science, and had earned the goodwill of his students as a friendly and affable teacher.

A tractor hit their motor bike carrying the two of them at about 7.45 pm on Saturday. It is learnt that Prem Singh died on the spot, while Naik lost his life while being carried to a hospital for treatment. Naik was sixth of seven children of Dev Rajput and Shylabai from Bataragi village in Bijapur taluk. He is survived by wife, two sons, five elder sisters, and a younger brother.

After the rear wheels of the tractor hit the motor bike, both of them fell down. They were tossed away by the force of iron rods fitted to the tractor trolley, it is said.

Shekhu had applied for leave from July 12 to 17 for attending family function at his native place. He had left on Friday night, and reached his native place on Saturday morning.
