Mangalore, Jul 19: As many as 21 youth from the tribal Malekudiya community will be appointed as home guards for the district for a period of 12 months, said DK district superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Goyal at a press meet held the SP’s office here on Friday, July 19.

“The initiative is not funded by the home ministry, is part of a scheme undertaken by the deputy commissioner’s office. Already, Rs 10 lac out of Rs 19.5 lac for six months has been sanctioned. Tribal youth mostly from Beltangady, Kadaba, Sullia and Uppinangady will be appointed. It is we who are going in search of eligible tribal youth," he said.

He clarified that these tribal youth will be trained for traffic management and will not be used for naxal and crime related issues.

Shedding more light on the new recruitment, he said, “They will enjoy all the benefits given to the home guards.

The selection procedure is as per the required standards of home guards. They will be paid Rs 250 per day. However, they should not have any criminal background.”

Besides, he also said that the district has been facing the ‘worst police - population ratio’ in comparison to the other small districts. "With this recruitment, our work load will be lessened," he said.

Dear SP Keep recruiting police every year directly from the high school or pre-university colleges. This will be a best plan to get educated police personnel. Also see that they get a minimum Rs 15000 per month.

Just a month and half and things are happening, things are being done and things are being done with zealous efforts.
this should carry on - the lesser and the middle class matters should not be delayed \ forgotten. If given attention, life will go on smoothly in our state.

First stop your police personnel from collecting mamool n haftha from people. Police department is directly in touch with people and indulges in corruption more than any other department. They loot from public on daily basis, so you cant deny of corruption in ur department. You may be sincere officer, but tradition of collecting mamool will continue unabated.

Your move is far more than welcome, however need of the hour is to up grade your entire departments pay scale and added fecilities.Pay comission need to go hand on to it.what have you offered is nothing but far less than what a daily wager earns.
We are in the saga of all modernisation,be it at home, work place, security, transport, railways, health depts.,schools and collages and many more places we need to upgrade pay scale. Now the gap between poorer and richer is beyond the para limits as compare to rest of the world,no wonder we have our medical staff is on strike in the capital and there will be more in the near future.
