Karkala, Jul 20: The huge pit left open by the side of the road at Neerebailooru, on the Udupi-Karkala state highway, poses a threat to the lives of commuters.

The monsoon water currents have washed away all the mud carving out a huge pit and posing obstacles for two-way traffic. Hence, to prevent the problem, both sides of the road were widened and concrete protection walls built.

In the present monsoon, the problem of the road continue as the mud walls have been washed away. Several vehicles travel on this route and through this dangerous spot. There is necessity for a drain to allow the water to easily pass through it. If the concerned department takes proper measures, then surely the problem can be solved.

“A protective wall was built according to the condition of the problem prevailing at the time,” said Vikram Hegde, president, taluk panchayat.

This is a prominent road and the issue should be resolved completely with the allocation of more funds, say locals.
