Mangalore: Talents galore at Konkani Natak Sabha singing contest

Mangalore, Jul 21: The eighth round of inter-parish Konkani Singing Competition organized by Konkani Natak Sabha, Mangalore as part of its golden jubilee celebrations, was held at Don Bosco Hall here on Sunday July 21.

The event was inaugurated by renowned singer Anil Patrao, Derebail by lighting the lamp along with president of Konkani Natak Sabha Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza (Capuchin), vice-president Dolphy Saldanha, general secretary Sunil Menezes, treasurer Prem Lobo, members of competition committee Adolphus Cutinha, Raymond D’Cunha, Felix Sequeira and Jossy Theodore.

Speaking on the occasion, Anil Patrao congratulated the Konkani Natak Sabha on conducting the Konkani Singing Competition at the deanery level to bring out the talents of children and adults and wished the participants every success. "Such events are necessary in order to provide a platform for talents in every nook and corner of the society. This is what Konkani Natak Sabha has been doing, without restricting itself to any one place," he further said.

In both the children's and adults' categories, 45 competitors from Cascia, Jeppu, Bejai, Urwa and Valencia parishes of the Mangalore episcopal city deanery participated.  

Edith D’Souza from Angelore, Anil Patrao and Alwyn D’Cunha from Derebail were the judges for the competition.
 
Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Prem Lobo introduced the judges, Dolphy Saldanha compered the programme and Sunil Menezes proposed the vote of thanks.

Prize distribution ceremony for the qualifiers of semi-final was held after the competition. The prizes were distributed by parish preist of Thokur Fr Richard Lasrado, along with president of Konkani Natak Sabha Fr Peter Cyprian D’Souza. Raymond D’Cunha announced the results.

Below 10 years:

Solo – Dyani Vinola D’Souza, Cascia and Chhris Angela D’Souza, Bejai
Mixed Group: Jennica Sonia D’Souza and group, Cascia
 

10 to 15 years:

Solo - Anson Rodrigues, Valencia and Prerana Fronteiro, Jeppu
Duet - Ovin Peter Theodore and Frenith Varun D’Souza, Cascia; Lisha Pereira and Delisha Rodrigues, Valencia
Mixed Group - Lisha Pereira and group, Valencia; Janissa Merl D’Souza and group, Cascia
 

Above 15 years

Ladies Solo - Oshin Theodore, Cascia and Jasmin Wilma D’Souza, Bejai
Gents Solo - Arun D’Souza, Jeppu and Anil Rupesh D’Souza, Cascia
Ladies duet - Viona D’Souza and Oshin Theodore, Cascia,
Gents duet - Samson Coelho and Anil Rupesh D’Souza, Cascia; Valen Sequeira and Dikson Rodrigues, Valencia
Mixed Group - Shanthi D’Souza and Group, Cascia

    Its great to see parishes taking active part in the Konkani Natak Sabha competitions. During our days, I remember taking part in the singing competition. The spirit and enthusiasm was excellent. But what a pity to see no audiences at all to cheer up the participants.
