Mangalore: Traditional delicacies add special flavour to 'Aatidonji Dina'

Mangalore, Jul 21: A variety of traditional mouth-watering dishes and entertaining performances marked the 11 annual 'Aatidonji Dina' programme held at Mulky Samaja Seva Bavana here on Sunday July 21.

Inaugurating the programme, priest and astrologer Vidwan Vedamurthy Vadhiraj Upadhyaya said, "Aati is not an ordinary festival, but a festival of medicinal herbs. We should never forget this festival and for the youth, this should be an inspiration."

On this occasion, a family of five generations was introduced to the gathering with blessings. Shravya (3), Saritha (27), Pushpa (48), Sharadha (74), and Rukku (94) were felicitated.

K Abhayachandra Jain, MLA and state minister for youth affairs and sports felicitated president of Billawa Mahamandala Jaya C Suvarna on this occasion.

As chief guest of the programme, Jain said, “Mulky Yuvavahini is a role model in performing Tulu programmes throughout the country.”

K K Pejawara, teacher of higher primary school, sung the song of ‘Aati’.

Aravinda Bolar and team performed a comedy programme called ‘Kusaldagonchel’, ‘Bharathanatyam’, and folk dance during the programme. Tulunadu snacks like ‘Arepudade’ with tea, ‘Happala’, ‘Kadle’, ‘Santhani’, and ‘Kerenguda Pulu’ were also served. At the end of the programme, along with ‘Aatida Agel’, mango pickle, ‘Timarre’ chutney, ‘Uppadu Pachil’, ‘Thekarethalli’, ‘Kudutha’ chutney, ‘Thajanke Nurge Soppu’, ‘Thevu Chetla’, ‘Padengi Gasi’, ‘Thevu Padpe’, ‘Kudutha Saru’, ‘Pelakaida Garya’, and ‘Methede Ganjji’ were served to more than 2,500 people.    

Billawa Samaj Seva Sangha president Yadesh Amin Kokarekallu, Yuvavahini president Prakash Suvarna, secretary Ramanada Suvarna, Gagan Suvarna, director Ramesh Bangera, and Chitra Suvarna were present as guests. Founder president Chandrashekar Suvarna presented the keynote address. Uday Amin and Deeksha Suvarna compered.
