B'lore: Wild animals claim 129 lives in state in last 3 years

Bangalore, Jul 22: As many as 129 people lost their lives in Karnataka during the last three years due to attacks by wild animals, Forest Minister B Ramanath Rai informed the State Assembly on Monday.

Wild animals killed 41 people in 2010-11, 22 in 2011-12, 50 in 2012-13 and 16 so far in the current year, he said in reply to a question from C T Ravi (BJP).

The figures showed that 520 people were injured during the period by wild inimals, whose attacks also left 51 others permanently disabled, he said.

Wild animals were also at the receiving end of humans, who have killed 203 of them from 2010-11 till last month-end, including 62 elephants, tigers (5), leopard (17) and deer  (33), the Minister said in the written reply.
Home Minister K J George said the police have recovered three idols stolen from the historical Jain Basadi in Moodabidri from Odisha.

Two persons have also been arrested in this connection, the minister said.

A total of 15 idols were stolen and only three have been recovered, he said.

The State Government ruled out conducting a probe into the death of six-year-old Meghala, allegedly on account of being malnourished, in the city.

In a reply to BJP floor leader and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Minister for Women and Child Development Umashree said there was no need of conducting any probe into the death of the girl.

The girl was died due to pneumonia infection.

The Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development departments had been looking after the malnourished girl at the Indrapura anganawadi centre at D J Halli.

The girl was improving but her condition deteriorated following infection with pneumonia, the Minister said.

Now, the family of the girl was given below poverty line ration card by the Food and Civil Supplies Department.

Compensation was also given to the family.
