Udupi, Jul 22: “Kushti, a rare game is on the verge of extinction. The effort put in by the education department in organizing this competition is laudable,” said district ZP member Katapadi Shankar Poojary.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the zonal level ‘Kushti’ competition for primary and high school students, jointly organized by Government United High School and zonal education department office at Mulooru on Saturday July 20.

“Department knows the kind of education to be given to the students from their childhood to adolescence. Department is also inspiring students to take part extra-curricular activities,” he added.
The competition was held under two different categories for students under 14 years of age and under 17 years of age.

Kaup gram panchayat president Usha Shenoy, vice president Dinesh Kotian, Udupi taluk panchayat member Shambavi S Kulal, former member Sulochana Bangera, panchayat member Pushpavathi V Suvarna, Mohan Kanchan, physical education supervisor Basavaraj, donor, old student Rohithashva Suvarna, Mogaveera Maha Sabha president Ravi Mulooru, Vanitha, Sunitha Bangera among others were present.

SDMC president Tharavathi S Kotian presided. Teachers Manjunath Brahmavar and Basheer Mulooru judged the competition.

Headmaster Sidharaju welcomed, physical education teacher Geetha thanked, teacher Shekar Poojary compered.
