Karkala, Jul 23: "The decision to remove the illegal chicken farms at Kalya which is under the limits of the Palli gram panchayat was  taken at the previous taluk panchayat general meeting. We need to obtain a reason to the failure of the implementation," stated the members as they questioned the taluk panchayat CEO, Rajendra Kumar on Monday July 22 at the taluk panchayat general meeting.

The said case has been registered at the Karkala rural police station. A notice has been issued by the gram panchayat, and legal action will be conducted accordingly. The revenue department has also been notified against the illegal farms which has been occupying the land sanctioned for housing facility.

Taluk panchayat Bola Jayaram Salian said “though the complaint has been filed a year ago, no action has been taken. Through this illegal business it is difficult to get the public housing scheme."

Member Clavier D’ Mello said “taluk panchayath has the right to remove the illegal shops, they must execute their powers. There is no use of discussing on the topic which has been prolonged for the past several months. The ignorance of the situation is embarassing for us as taluk panchayath members."

Vikram Hegde demanded to conduct action with help of police protection, Meanwhile, Rajendra Bekal ended the discussion by agreeing to the demands and assured the members to make a decision on the illegal farms.

Bola Jayaram also alleged that in some of the fair price shops an additional price is being demanded for a kilo of rice from the buyer. In reply to this allegation, the food supervisor said that he will look into the matter.

The renewal of old ration cards (the ones issued before 2010) will be temporarily stopped till August 31 as the photographs for the new ration cards is currently in process. There is also opportunity to open eight fair price shops said Food Supervisor answering to the question of Jayaram Salian and Ravindra Kumar.

"Under the Basava housing scheme for every gram panchayat 20 houses are sanctioned," said CEO Rajendra Bekal.

Member Ravindra Kumar said “the complete funds for this project have not been sanctioned for the houses which are under construction." He also noted that some houses have been built so weak that they may fall due to the heavy rain.

Though the nodal officers have been appointed by the Rajeev Gandhi housing scheme, there is no officer in Karkala hence it poses as a problem for these houses.
