Udupi, Jul 24: Three areas around Tenka Yermal and a fisheries near Kadipatla Bengre are in a state of danger due to sea erosion.

As the sea waves are getting rough, it has become difficult to even walk on the fisheries road which runs parallel to the shore. Meanwhile, more than 20 coconut trees belonging to Gangadhar Suvarna have been washed away. Leela Karkera has lost 6 coconut trees and near Y Gangadar’s house, a part of the road has been damaged.

In Thottam Bobbaryakombu, more than 20 meters of the road has been eroded by the sea.

In Kadipatna Bengre too, near Balappa Gurikara house, the road is in danger. Near Amin Moolasthana, the waves have been lashing two to three houses, despite the fact that stones have been placed as a barrier against the sea.

Udupi tahsildar Abhijan who visited the spot instructed the revenue department to shift the residents of the area to safer places.

Mendon visit

Kaup former MLA Lalaji R Mendon on Tuesday July 23 visited the spot and conducted investigation. He spoke to district commissioner over phone and asked him to take immediate measures in the areas affected by sea erosion. UPCL's temporary breakwater which is the main reason for sea erosion should be opened soon, he said to the DC.

He was accompanied by Prakash Shetty Padabettu, Sumana Kishore, Sathish Salian, Sridar Bangera, Dhamiraj, Suresh Kanchan, Appi teacher, Sharada Poojary, Damodar Suvarna and others.

When greedy people start charging exorbitant rates for land which God had freely given us he is also capable of showing us that he can claim it back through these calamities.

This is sickening, every year same problem and Govt spents out relief for those affected ,our tax money for nothing.
-who had asked them to encroach land near sea? why the violation of set back area was tolerated and not corrected? why Govt doesn't take steps to evacuate these people away from beach side? unless you people place red color stop boards to the sea and mention( tothe sea) if you trespass u will be punished !or tell the sea please do not cross the marked line by the authorities ! HAHAHA

    Dear Lalaji Mendon,
What will happen by just talking (on phone) with DC?
Our poilitical buggers should have brain and guts to take this issue in state/national level and find a permanent solution to the entire coastal belt. This problem is not of today or yesterday but for decades? Why cant the Govt think of providing strong and permanent stone fence?

Mr.Dinesh Shetty: Mr.Sorake has already visited this area and also all the other areas in Udupi District Inorder to examine the issue of sea erosion along with the officers concerned Inorder to provide immediate remedy and if you remember the very next day the district administration under the order of Mr.SORAKE took steps to avoid this happening.. But as u may know natures force is always supreme how long can you keep huge bolders of rock at bay when waves at such force tend to pull them aback .. All that can be done is temporary measures at the moment and once the rain starts reducing permanent measures could be taken..And Mr.Dinesh don't not forget ever since sorake has taken charge of the district if not any other road especially the national highway has been in good condition..unlike in previous years when the highway would be in miserable condition during rainy season.. Dinesh watch before speaking carelessly .. It's not a easy job
