Bangalore, Jul 27 (DHNS): An eight year-old girl was grievously wounded when a pack of stray dogs mauled her as she stepped out of the house to fetch a packet of milk at Bagalur here on Friday.

The victim, Architha, walked barely a few metres when her family members were alarmed by her screams.

“We saw four to five dogs mauling her. A taxi driver and a few residents were trying to
scare them away,” her relative Mahendra said.

The family rushed Architha to a local hospital where doctors referred her to the M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

The BBMP Joint Director (Animal Husbandry), Dr Pervez Ahmed Piran, said that although the incident occurred outside the Palike’s jurisdiction, the victim was provided with treatment.

“Anti-rabies serum was administered to the victim and she was kept under intensive care. The hospital decided to bear the cost of treatment as the victim’s family is poor,” Piran said. 
The Animal Birth Control (ABC) in the area has already been notified to monitor, isolate and observe dogs which show symptoms of rabies, he added.

Architha’s parents Srinivas G S and Ambavathi hail from Bagepalli and are employed on daily wages by a private construction firm at Bagalur.
