Bangalore, Jul 28: Warmly complimenting the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations, the apex body of different associations of Konkani Catholics in Bangalore and other cities of Karnataka and even abroad, for its yeomen work in promoting the cause of Konkani, its culture and people, the Editor of Daijiworld English Weekly Stephan Mascarenhas, popularly known by pen name Hemacharya, asked the FKCA and its affiliated associations to extend its full support to media and thereby further the interests of the community.

Addressing the FKCA office-bearers and its executive committee members after its first meeting following the recent annual general body meeting in Bangalore on Saturday, Hemacharya said a strong and vibrant media was the most essential prerequisite not only for the success of democracy but also to fight for the safeguarding the interests of the people and even provide assistance in times of need.

The internet-based media, especially the news portals, which had tremendous reach, power and influence cutting across State and national boundaries and overcoming the narrow divisions of caste, creed, colour or regions, Hemacharya said citing the example of Daijiworld.com, which has emerged as a powerful vehicle. The success of the Daijiworld.com, which is being run by Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, prompted the launch of the Daijiworld English Weekly to fill the vacuum of a quality English weekly from the State, especially the coastal region, Hemacharya said and sought the support of organizations like FKCA and its affiliated bodies for increasing the subscriber base and even advertisements to enable the Weekly to grow.

Hemacharya appreciated the efforts of FKCA in promoting the cause of Konkani and even taking up the issue of Konkani in liturgy in different parishes of Bangalore Archdiocese, which had substantial Konkani speaking faithful.  Promoting and fighting for the cause of mother-tongue and its culture or opposing any attempts to silence the linguistic and religious minorities cannot and should not be considered as parochial or sectarian, he said and contended that language and religion were part of the identity, which were very much essential.

FKCA Chairperson Aida Margaret D’Cunha and former FKCA Chairmen Valerian R Fernandes and Charles Gomes as well as of different Konkani Catholic organizations of Bangalore promised full support to the Daijiworld.com and the English Weekly.

Daijiworld Special Correspondent in Bangalore Gabriel Vaz, Marketing Manager Vincent Pinto and Representative in Bangalore Major Felix Moras attended the meeting.
