Udupi, Jul 29: Protesting against the release of waste water by buildings and hotels directly into gutter without treating with STP system, the Chantaru villagers led by Heroor Nagarika Horata Samiti closed the pipes that let out waste water.

The multi-storey buildings, hotels and lodges in Brahmavar have been reportedly letting out the waste water directly to the gutter resulting in foul smell due to which citizens are unable to walk in the area.

"There are several malaria cases recorded in the area and if this continues then people would have to suffer from various deadly diseases. Even after submitting several memorandums to the local administration, there has been no positive response from the officials," the protestors said.

The Horata Samiti members along with citizens on protested by blocking the waste water pipe with concrete.

Mahesh Moily, Harishchandra Poojary, Horata Samiti secretary Sadashiv Shetty, Shekar Devadiga, president of Mahalingeshwara friends club among others were present.

A few days ago, DC Dr M T Reju had visited a few apartments and warned the builders for not using STP system. He had also ordered the residents to get the system installed at the earliest.

    Jokes aside.
Introduce compulsory course in colleges /schools in handling waste - water -renewable energy.
Handling the garbage is every household daily problem - we create/produce and let us handle -most hygienically.
Course is to co-operate with the city/municipally in segregating the RECYCLABLES vs the solid waste.this is pure management from home not nuclear science.
They should be provided with 2 types of bins for collection from glass-tins-wood- aluminium -paper cardboard etc the other the waste for organic manure.
This has to be collected by the city periodically on weekly basis to proper modern plants for recycling.
    what is the problem?
By law: fine heavily all erring citizens -littering-refuse-defecating-urinating- spitting- etc.
BY LAW ban gutka etc .
be civil and live like civilians.-respect law abiding citizens.
    co-operate with city -municipality.
Let there be discipline and character.
