Karkala, Jul 31:
The city’s Indira Gandhi Commercial Complex, which was inaugurated 11 months ago has quite a few unknown vehicles parked in reserved spots.

On November 30, 2009, former minister late Dr V S Acharaya laid the foundation stone for the commercial complex building on Karkala Market Road. The building was constructed at a cost of Rs 2.15 crore. On August 19, 2012, union minister M Veerappa Moily inaugurated the building.  Various meats and vegetables are available in this market. However, there is no proper maintenance of the parking lot.

Karkala municipality must be lauded for building such a good spacious parking lot for the Indira Gandhi Commercial Complex. However, many vehicles, not of customers, are seen parked here frequently. There is one car that was parked here five months ago. It is now covered with dirt and dust and the number plate has been removed. No one has an inkling as to the identity of the vehicle’s owner or what it is doing in that particular spot.

Karkala Municipality has taken no action against this. The police department also shouldn’t forget their responsibility of confiscating the unknown vehicle.

In the last municipality general meeting it was decided to take collect parking fees for parking allotment. This is also a revenue source for the municipality; it can be utilized for more developments. Unfortunately, the decision has not been implemented and is causing all these problems.
