MUMBAI, Jan 29: Amitabh Bachchan may have to undergo another surgery, this time for hernia. Already, the buzz in the film industry is that the superstar may not resume work until April at least.

Two months ago, Bachchan was operated upon in Lilavati Hospital at Bandra for a diverticulum in his small intestine that had ruptured, causing a medical emergency.

His recovery after the operation has been smooth, but it has taken longer than usual. The reason, according to doctors, is the abundance of scar tissue in his abdomen from an earlier surgery in July 1982 after an accident while shooting for the film Coolie.

A member of the medical team that looked after Bachchan in Lilavati Hospital told DNA on condition of anonymity that they had noticed the hernia during the operation in December. Apparently it has been in existence for a while.

According to doctors, a hernia can remain inert for years together, but it can also turn into a life-threatening emergency in less than half-an-hour. Hence it should not be left alone.

But the doctor quoted earlier said they would have to wait for at least three months from the time of the last surgery to operate on the hernia.

Incidentally, a Canada-based astrologer, Kirit Trivedi  had predicted recently that Bachchan would need further surgery on his abdomen within the next three months.

Phone calls to Bachchan’s office and his secretary Rosie Singh, followed up with an SMS, failed to elicit any response till the time of going to the press.
