Mangalore, Aug 1: Dr Jancy James, vice-chancellor, Central University of Kerala, inaugurated the MBBS course 2013-2014 on Thursday, August 1, in the Decennial Memorial Hall at Father Muller Medical College.
The new batch was inaugurated by lighting of the auspicious lamp by the dignitaries present on the dais.
Dr Jayaprakash Alva, dean of FMCI, welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering. Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, administrator of FMCI, introduced the chief guest.
Speaking after the inauguration, Dr James expressed her happiness of being surrounded by young minds, full of dreams. She said, "I have a good relationship with this hospital, as I myself have been a patient and also the mother of a patient."
She also noted, "This institute is well-known for its good quality of service and dedication towards its patients, in all aspects. It is bound with the aspect of A3 which stands for ‘anywhere, anything and anytime’. All of you have been lucky to be chosen to complete your course at this renowned institution."
"Maintaining quality, relationship, tradition, and our own self is a greater challenge in this field along with coping up with the transitional changes in the field of medicine and its branches," she added.
Dr James also said, "Health care nowadays has become a matter of concern, priority, and criticality, compared to the olden days. People are ready to spend any amount for matters related to their health."
She further explained that, "While you are focused and concentrated on specialization, you shouldn’t forget that it’s a human being that is the prime source of our research."
Finally, she urged the new students to make their batch a role model for the entire institute.
In his presidential address, Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMCI, motivated the new students towards the three keys to be adapted, while they are in the institution. He further explained the aspect of the keys stating that, "The first is God, the second is respect for others, and the third is being oneself."
"Commitment, dedication, and desire to excel everyday are the prime aspects in our students and thus every individual, who is a part of this institute needs to indulge this spirit in order to have a pleasant stay here," he added.
Diana D’Cunha, a student of the 2011 batch shared her experience and her journey in the institute with the freshers and their parents who were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Dr Prakash Shetty, vice-dean and professor & HOD, Anatomy, rendered the vote of thanks.
