Puttur, Aug 17: St Philomena College organized a guest lecture on the topic “Non-linear optical crystals: Materials with a difference” for MSc Physics students recently.

The senior scientist Dr H L Bhat from  IISc Bangalore, delivered a lecture on the said topic, which was organized by the PG department of Physics.

The HOD of the department Dr A P Radhakrishna introduced the guest.

Dr H L Bhat said, “Energy is the immediate need of today’s world. Without sufficient sources of energy , full-fledged growth of the nation cannot be expected."

“Due to modern technology man has reached to a stage of creating the sun artificially on earth (laboratory) through the process called nuclear fusion”, he added.

According to Dr H L Bhat, the energy requirement to start the nuclear fusion reaction and other important research inventions rely on a very important branch of Physics called Non-linear Optics.

The faculty members, first and third semester students of the department attended the program.  Asheeda from first year, M Sc proposed the vote of thanks whereas Shwetha from second year M Sc compered the programme.
