Karkala: Cashew Tech Expo to be held from Aug 17- Aug 19

Karkala, Aug 17: The Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers Association in collaboration with Tender Today Group are organising an exhibition - 'Cashew Tech Expo 2013' at Sri Lakshmidevi Kalyana Mantapa, Karkala, Udupi District.

It is a three day event held on August 17, August 18 and August 19. The exhibition is open to all and no entrance fee is charged. It will showcase the latest technology and machineries related to the Cashew Nut Processing industry. More than 45 exhibitors will participate and 400 industrialists are expected to attend the exhibition.

The president of KCMA Sri Sudhakar Kamath had called for mechanization revolution in the industry with the slogan " Yantra Kranti". The programme is KCMAs initiative to develope and promote better and efficient technology.

The cashew industry in Karnataka has been growing year on year at a rate of 20%. The industry in Karnataka, is now more than Rs 2000 crore in revenue and provides employment to more than 50,000 women workers in the rural areas.

The better economic changes in the state has lead to shortage of labour to this growth industry. To keep the pace of development and increase the output, the cashew industry of Karanataka is actively looking at machineries that can increase productivity and ease the workload on the women workforce. Cashew Tech Expo 2013 will showcase these machines.

A  programme on ‘Mechanization of Cashew Processing Technology’ will be parallely be held on August 18 from 10 am onwards at the same venue.

Oscar Fernandes, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways will inaugurate the one day function on August 18 as the chief guest.

KCMA is honoring Oscar Fernandes on being appointed as the Union Minister at the function. His honorable selves have helped this industry in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada to grow over the years and the members of the association express their gratitude on this occasion.

Walter D'Souza, chairman, Southern Region, Federation of Indian Exporters Organisation is invited as the guest of honour. The program will also have seminars on the Future of Cashew Industry by G Giridhara Prabhu, Achal Industries and Value Addition to Cashew Nut Shell Liquid by Dr V S Prasad from Regional Research Institute, Trivandrum and a session on Government Subsidies and Incentives that explains how entrepreneurs can utilise the encouragement from the Govt Agencies.

The machines displayed in the exhibition, are manufactured to improve and elevate the working conditions of the Workers in the factory. In last few years workers have increasingly preferred new technology. Theworkers have understood that machines can reduce the physical burden and make working more efficient and are increasingly preferring to work with it.

It is a general opinion among the manufacturers that no machine is as good as the Karnataka worker and she is irreplaceable due to her skill, dedication and consistency.

Apart from increasing the production output, Cashew processors look at the machines to make cashew nuts more hygienic and safer for the consumers. Exhibition is showcasing semi automatic shelling machines, semi automatic peeling machines and colour sorters that clean the nuts faster and better.
