Ashok Gudigar to sculpt 'Poornaprajna’ Madhwacharya statue

Udupi, Aug 22: The half sculpted structure of the saint 'Poornaprajna’ Madhwacharya received a warm welcome at Karavali junction followed by a procession towards Kunjargiri.

A temporary shelter will be created and the work is scheduled to start within 15 days. Ashok Gudigar and his team of sculptors will finish the work within ten months. The team includes nine great artists, three locals and six sculptors from Bangalore.

Gudigar sculptures are famous in India and abroad. He sculpts on stone, metal, wood, and fiberglass. He hails from Sagar, Shimoga district of Karnataka, India, and lives in Bangalore. He has an experience of 16 years in the field.

Gudigar started sculpting wood as per family practice. His famous works are Bahubai statue which is 41 feet tall.

It is one of the biggest stone statues which is located in Gujarat. In Chennai, he has carved a statue of 21 feet known as the Anjaneya sculpture, was made on the request of actor Arjun Sarja.

Sainika Smaraka is another one of the works which is 78 feet tall which symbolizes the hardwork put in by the soldiers.

He was also awarded as a winner at Kamaladevi Chattopadhya Vishwakarma Award, he has been felicitated with the state award for 'Rama Pattabhisheka' and has also won the National Award for 'Venugopala' statue, and Rajyotsava Award by Government of Karnataka in the year 2010.

As a mark of respect to Dvaita philosopher ‘Poornaprajna’ Madhwacharya, Palimar Math is installing a 32-ft single stone structure of the saint at Kunjargiri foothill. The stone wherein the saints sculpture would be made reached Kunjargiri on Wednesday evening and was welcomed in a grand manner.

The stone was welcomed by Sri Vishwapriya Theertha Sripadha along with the presence of thousands of devotees.

After blessing the sculpture stone, he said in Kunjargiri already Brahmakalashotsava has been done and decision is been made to construct a silver chariot. Adding to that, it is a welcomed gesture as saint Madhwacharya sculpture will be installed here.

Through the installation of the saint’s sculpture, let it bring happiness to people and also asked everyone to join hands in completion of this work.

Palimar Math administrator Balaram Bhat also spoke on the occasion.

Former MLA Lalaji R mendon, zilla panchayat member Katapady Shankar Poojary, Geethanjali Suvarna, taluk panchayat member Srikar Suvarna, Precilla Mathias, Vinay Ballal, Kurkalu gram panchayat president Bhuvanesh Poojary, Srikara Suvarna Katapady, Venkataramana Mucchintaya, Raghavendra Acharya, Rajendra Rao among others were present.
