Udupi, Aug 24: Sagarika Ghosh, deputy editor of CNN-IBN, while interacting with the students of Manipal School of Communication, said that women-friendly police stations and the court attached to it for the early disposal of cases concerning women atrocities are the need of the hour to prevent atrocities against women.

She supported justice J S Verma Commission report over the safety of women by terming it ‘path-breaking’ and stressed that  judicial, social, educational, governmental, and political reforms avoiding women is leading to a downgrading of women’s position in the society .

“The credibility of journalism is being questioned. Freedom doesn't mean lack of responsibility. It's the responsibility of the reporter to maintain high credibility. Hunting down someone without proper evidence is an abuse of freedom. Media has to balance between freedom and responsibility,” added Ghosh.

Stating that corporatization, politicization, and trivialization are the three deadly enemies of journalism which affect the growth of media, she stressed that a journalist by definition should be against politicians; journalists and politicians can never be friends.

Ghosh also opposed sensationalizing of news and said that a journalist must tell the truth and take on the powerful.

In the present world, especially in India , journalism especially electronic media has become commerce. Except truth everything is reported. At times one feel ashamed of the news and authenticity of it. Electronic media has lost credibility. Journalism should be a mission not a career.when anyone opts for any career , it is to better their own well-being. Any other profession is ok , but greedy journalist is very dangerous to the society. The real journalism was over long back along with Ramnath goenka, Kamat,B.K.Karanjia, MJ akbar, and other where they had the spirit to speak truth and courage to fight the establishment. with Economic development we lost ethics and moral values. It time we stop giving celebrity status to these TV journalists.

The journalistic ethics has gone to dogs.No one is diong the right work of guiding the society instead they are keen to misguide the public and create panic and commotions. The journalism are slowly becoming the slaves with the political parties. They are mostly used to set wrong trends before election.I dont't know why the journalism in India is slowly fading away from its moral duties. This is really a matter of concern and introspection.Thanq

There are 2 famous Sagarikas in Bengal...
    One is Shaan's sister...
    Another is CNN IBN's Sagarika...
I am comfortable to commment on the former..
This Sagarika may be talking truth at this point...but the arrogant past may be gone away...
    I still am not comfortable...
