Bangalore, Sep 10: Now that the all important Ganesha festival is over, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has announced a hike of Rs 2 per litre on its Nandini brand of milk as well as curd with effect from (September 11) Wednesday.

The KMF’s decision, which was announced late in the evening, follows the official clearance given by the Animal Husbandry and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra.

Jayachandra, who spoke to reporters in Bangalore on Tuesday, said the State Government will not interfere in KMF’s decision to increase the milk and curd prices.

The KMF is the second largest cooperative milk federation after AMUL.

It markets the products under the brand name Nandini all over the State.

Increase in diesel prices leading to rise in transportation costs and funds needed to augment infrastructure have contributed to the decision.

However the prices are still lower compared to neighbouring States.

Asked about misuse of funds by the KMF, he said a report has been sought and officials indulged in irregularities would be punished.
