Mangalore, Sep 19: MLA J R Lobo, along with other concerned officials visited the Kankanady Market and received grievances from the shop keepers and vendors about existing problems on Wednesday September 18.

He later assured the market users of solving the issue soon and also directed the officials to take proper steps to ensure that all the issues are resolved.

Speaking to the media, Lobo said that the market lacks cleanliness. “Another prime issue are the leaking roofs that have been creating major trouble, mainly during rainy seasons. Fish and vegetables have been sold together in this market; there are no separate divisions, which have to be constructed. A new market building will be constructed and the blue print for this will be ready and released within two months,” he added.

He further visited the spot opposite the market where rainwater gets collected on the roadside, inspected the spot, and urged the officials to implement a permanent solution to this problem.

Naveen D’Souza, T K Sudhir, Karunakar Shetty, Krithin, Jayakar Samartha, and other officials were present at the meet.

Yes Yes NEW HYGIENE Market is very much in need for Kankanady.
I visited Kankanady market in Mangalore 3-4 times recently during my vacation, the latest was 3 days back. Yes as MLA Mr. Lobo addressed HYGIENE (cleanliness) is the main concern there. Dirty dirty everywhere dirty in that market yard.

It is difficult to visit the mutton stalls or chicken stalls or fish market or vegetable shops or the food item shops there. The market yard is not properly cleaned or disinfecting cleaning items not used there. Garbage disposal tanks are not properly handled.

Definitely each and every visitor will face a tough time there.

Hope the MLA's visit will result in some good actions from govt. approving for NEW HYGEINIC MARKET YARD project for Kankanady so that we will have neat Food item stores, mutton stalls, chicken stalls, vegitable shops and fish stalls.

Mangalore Corporation authorities / Karnataka State Govt. must take/approve & implement some HEALTH/HYGEINIC oriented projects in Kankanady and in whole of Mangalore. Corporation authorities & the Govt. with the help of NGOs must conduct HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) awareness programs/gatherings to educate our citiznes. If the people do not follow the instructions from the authorities to maintain cleanliness and safety imposing strict penalties to the offenders might bring the good result.
