Bangalorean found killed in Nairobi mall attack

New Delhi/Nairobi, Sep 24 (IANS):
Another Indian, Sudharshan B. Nagaraj from Bangalore, was Tuesday identified as among the 62 killed in the Nairobi mall attack by Islamist militants. This raises to three the number of Indians killed in the attack, the government said.

"The toll of Indian citizens killed in Westgate attack rises. Sudharshan B..Nagaraj from Bangalore sadly identified as among those killed. He was in the book trade and had only come to Nairobi on Sep 20," said a short statement of the external affairs ministry.

The Indian High Commission in Nairobi is in touch with Nagaraj's next of kin and associates to repatriate his mortal remains, it said.

Sudarshan was a 50-year-old businessman from Bangalore, his elder brother Ramprasad said Tuesday.

"Sudarshan is the youngest among three brothers and one sister. He was a partner in our joint business of manufacturing farm equipment here," a grieving Ramprasad told reporters at his residence at Mavalli in the southern suburb of the city.

Incidentally, Sudarshan, who was on a business trip to Kenya, landed in Nairobi a day before the Sep 21 terror strike in the Westgate mall, where he went shopping for books.

"We have been trying to contact him in vain since Saturday night after we learnt through television about the incident in Nairobi. We did not know that he was at the mall when the terrorists struck," Ramprasad said.

The Indian High Commission in Nairobi informed the family about the death of Sudarshan earlier in the day.

"We are waiting to know from the high commission when his (Sudarshan's) body will be flown to Bangalore," Ramprasad added.

Earlier, Sridhar Natarajan, 40, from Tamil Nadu, and Paramshu Jain, eight, the son of a Bank of Baroda's Nairobi branch manager, were identified as among those killed by Islamist militants in their terror strike in Westgate mall in the Kenyan capital.

Somalia-based militant group Al Shabab has claimed responsibility for the shooting spree in Westgate mall. Four Indians are also among the nearly 200 injured.

Mr. Mithra, everybody knows there is no religion called terrorism, terrorists them self says that they are the best peoples of the society will you accept this claim, similar way we need to discard all the statements. Every religion got good & bad peoples. All religious scholars are ample of knowledge about humanity, you may be lacking somewhere. My earlier suggestion was general irrespective of region & religion let’s not get into religion & debate. Common yaar think something out of the box.

Terrorism is not a religion it’s a heinous act, so let’s not boost them by attaching to any religion let us isolate them by detaching from all religion & fight together against terrorism at least by will.

    Mr Jamal Yusuf
Nobody says terrorism is a religion, but truly it’s an effect of a religion
Nobody wants to label it religion, But terrorists themselves are labeling it to religion to achieve their goal
And for your last suggestion, fight against terrorism first start from educating religious leaders about humanity.

This news of death of Banglorean was NOT given any importance by all English & Hindi TV channels where as the death of other Two north Indians/Gujaratis was high lighted. Because as usual for these Northern TV Channels the Life South Indians is worthless. After all South Indians are second grade citizens in their own country.

A piece in Guardian newspaper says that this was a retaliatory attack by Al-Shabab. Kenya decided to unilaterally send its military to Somalia which was then controlled by Al-Shabab. Kenya's main aim was to create a Kenya controlled buffer between Kenya and Somalia mainly as a defense to safegaurd its tourism and shipping industry. Kenya infact succeeded in its mission, which was later rubber stamped by African countries. However, Al-shabab which ceded control of many areas of Somalia had vowed revenge. Many in the western media think that this was a revenge attack deriving inspiration from Mumbai attacks when it comes to ution. It's really sad that Al-Shabab has chosen to kill innocents rather than fight the Kenyan army. And all the talk of bringing God to their equation in justifying this method of revenge I am sure is rubbish.

Am sure there is some basic knowledge of humanity is missing with these people. Some drastic step needs to be taken to educate the uneducated lot to know that all humans are equal. It is the wrong notion which leads to all this kind of massacre. God only should come down as ........
