Mangalore, Sep 24: The inauguration of Karnataka cluster workshop on ‘Development of scientific temper and demystification of miracles’ was held at ISD, Nanthoor, here, on Monday September 23.

The five-day workshop held under the aegis of the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) in association with Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Karnataka Rajya Vijnaana Parishad will enlighten the society.

The workshop was inaugurated by MLA J R Lobo and Dr Vivian D’Souza, associate dean at Kasturba Medical College.

The welcome speech was delivered by Kadamajalu Subhash Rai, president of KRVP, Dakshina Kannada.

Professor Narendra Nayak in his key-note address said, “Development of Scientific Temper and Demystification of Miracles is a five-day workshop. Three trainees from each cluster of 12 districts of the state have participated and they will demystify miracles and enlighten the society on the ways and means through which innocent people are deceived by so called miracle men.”

Dr Vivian D’Souza lauded professor Narendra Nayak for his commitment towards the project and his perseverance for the society.

He said, “Narendra Nayak has put his time, money and life for the past 20 years in this project and hope the three chosen representatives from each cluster of 12 districts may further create awareness in the society.”

In his presidential address, J R Lobo said, “We appreciate and encourage such workshops that enlighten the society. Teachers and students should be educated on such subjects on a grass root level.”

Dr Madhav Rao, psychiatrist; Dr Shreenivas Kakkillaya, consultant physician; Dr Paniraj, professor of civil engineering at MIT and Sridhar Prabhu, advocate of high court of Karnataka were the renowned resource persons present at the workshop.

Renny D’Souza, treasurer of KRVP, Dakshina Kannada, proposed the vote of thanks.
