Mangalore, Sep 25: Four years after she was arrested for carrying out suspected Naxal activities, Horale Saroja walked out of jail here on Wednesday September 25, after she was absolved of charges in 22 cases that were slapped against her in Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala.

It may be recalled that Saroja (29) from Horale in Megur gram panchayat in Koppa taluk of Chikmagalur district, and Devendra (37) from Sorab in Shimoga district, were arrested by the Shimoga district police in 2009 and lodged in Mysore jail. They had been handed over to Udupi district police in February 2010 for their alleged offences committed within the limits of Amasebail and Shankarnarayana police stations. Later, Saroja was shifted to Mangalore sub-jail.

Saroja had been charged for offences under various sections including treason, violation of Arms Act, and destruction of public property. Out of the 22 cases against her and Devendra, 10 were in Kundapur court and the rest in Udupi and Karkala courts. Among the 10 cases in Kundapur court, the last one was dismissed on March 22 this year.

Addressing media persons after her release from jail, a relieved Saroja said that police had filed a false case against her accusing her of having connections with Naxals. She further said that at the time, her focus was on fighting for justice for people affected by some of the projects in the state.

Saroja said that she forced by the police to admit that she was carrying out Naxal activities, and when she refused to oblige, they slapped cases against her in several police stations.

"I am happy that all the allegations against me have been proved false. I shall continue to fight against injustice and hope that no innocent person is victimized like me," she said.

The confidence and no-guilty feeling in her face tells it all. She is a fighter for social cause which she wants to continue inspite her being behind the bar. Such social activists are branded naxalites and hounded and harrased. The state should compensate her and the family adaquately for the false charge and for the mental agony and loss of livelyhood and the social shame she had to face.

The aquittal does not mean she is not guilty. it just means the police were not able to provide enough evidences.
the naxal associates are very much literate and cunning they avoid leaving any traces of their walk. Only sharp actions and ncounters resulted in the decline of naxals in karnataka.
The police are not fools to slap charges against an unknown woman!

Shame on these police people who frame innocents and send them to jail without any proof and later loose the case in the court. I request the HM of karnatka to look into this and punish all the responsible police severly.

One woman was killed by Cyanide Mohan Kumar and the parents were not knowing her whereabouts. So they went to the police to complain. But police refused to register complaint and told Parents that she has joined Naxalist gang and also showed their records to prove that she has become Naxalite. Finally they were proved wrong when Cyanide Kumar was caught.

This shows police can slap any case on anyone if they want ! What kind of justice system.Dear Friends.on earth we are not going to find justice at all.I know God is watching and the guilty will be punished by God in some way. They and their families will suffer in many ways as per Gods justice.I am sure God is sad that he ever created Human being who hates others instead of love, falsely accuses, corrupt, high minded, evil minded, selfish, not God fearing, man pleasing, and more. My heart is saddened for this Girl who suffered so much pain. What and who can replace it? Let God and his justice be served on this earth which ruled by evil men of greedy power hungry men !

Saroja can file a law suit against the Police department for wasting her precious 4 years life, false allegation, torture, trauma, and defaming her and her family. The Police department must pay for all this.

The Cops should be taken to task and imprisoned. This is not fair in a democratic set up.

I advise this lady to approach the High Court and see that these Cops go behind bars.

    Good.

Police should hang their head in shame for booking a false case against her for reasons best known to them only.
