Mangalore, Sep 26: "Youth are the asset of the nation. But they should be trained in a proper way. Every individual should be educated and serve the society. People should also realize the sacrifices and contribution of the Mahatma to this nation and youth should try to imbibe his ideology," said K Abayachandra Jain, state minister for youth service and fisheries.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the National Service Scheme (NSS) Day and anniversary of Prof Parampalli Narasimha Mayya at School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya here on Tuesday September 24.
Dr B Yashovarma, secretary of SDM Educational Society and president of First Grade College Principals' Association, said, "This type of pro-social programmes should be a challenge to the existing social problems in the country. In a contemporary scenario, individuals are lacking, proper goals and patriotism. Indeed, everyone should inevitably cultivate patriotism. Individuals should strive for the development of society as it is the responsibility of the individual that he return what has obtained from it. Education is not only obtaining a degree but along with an educational degree, individual should also cultivate moral values and civic sense to lead a beautiful life."
Expressing concern over food and water wastage, he added that in future the world was going to face a food and water scarcity; hence, every individual should practice conserving these.
Dr Shantharam Shetty, vice chancellor of NITTE University, said, "India has an enormous youth population which can take this country to development. Youth should dream of fulfilling their goal, aim, or mission. Basically, there are four types of teachers, the ordinary teacher who just comes and talks; the second category which teaches and tells; thirdly, a teacher who demonstrates, and lastly, the few teachers who will be role models to society. The methodology taught today will not be the same tomorrow. Hence, every individual should aim for innovative changes."
On this occasion, Dr B M Dilshad, past NSS officer and president of Women's Study Center Bijapur, Women's College, was felicitated on this occasion.
Dr Lakshminarayana Bhat P presented the memorial speech. Dr Sopia N Fernandes, principal, School of Social Work, Roshini Nilaya, presided over the occasion.
Dr Madhava M, NSS project officer, Kishor D'Souza, Aishwarya J S, Prakash K, Ramya, Pooja Uppadhyaya, and Soumya were present on the occasion.
