Bangalore: Former minister quits BJP; says can't accept Modi as PM move

Bangalore, Sep 26 (PTI): Mumtaz Ali Khan, who was a Minister in the previous BJP Government, joined Congress today, saying he was saddened by the outfit's decision to project Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate.

Khan, who had held the departments of Minority Affairs, Haj and Wakf during BJP rule, also resigned as a member of the state Legislative Council.

Soft-spoken Khan, a sociology professor, who had taught at the University of Agricultural Sciences here, was hand-picked by former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa who also made him a Minister.

In fact, he had identified with Yeddyurappa after the latter quit BJP and floated Karnataka Janata Paksha.

"Modi did not express regrets for the 2002 tragedy. We have to work together and stop Modi from becoming Prime Minister", Khan told reporters at the office of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee where KPCC President G Parameshwara welcomed him into the party.

Modi is leader from Majority community, he has his training in RSS, and he has terrorized minorities. He preached same lessons to Yeddy too and Yeddi did ditto copy-cat in Karnataka. What is the guarantee that Muslims, Christians, Dalits will be safe if Modi is PM ? Can we take risk with Modi ? Modi is strong leader with determined decision making power. What if he goes against Minorities after becoming PM ?

We are living in a Secular Democratic country. Therefore your apprehensions are uncalled and un-founded.
By the way you have every right Not to Vote ( May be even NOTA in coming days )X,Y and Z, including Mr. Modi.

The best example is BJP in Karnataka. People, who voted BJP, kicked out the same BJP. Therefore please don't play Majority and Minority card. All are Indians.

Some people say just give one chance to Modi and he will show how to develop India. If Modi indeed becomes PM and starts to implement his hidden agenda of suppressing weaker sections in India and also suppressin Minority communities in the name of religion and caste, which might end in loss of life n property, then What ? People cannot regret later after electing Modi as PM. There is not chance and place for regret. Better be cautious and reject Modi straightaway on election day if you have doubt in mind about Modi. You have seen his CV in Gujarath. He will first launch Massacre and then starts development to appease corporate biggies.

    Be wise this time.

If anybody say he is responsible for 2002 riots, then you should under stand Mr. hiten desai who was then CM in 1969 when Gujarat's historical riots took place where officially 5000people died. And Rajiv Gandhi responsible for Sikh riots in 1984. Akilesh for recently in UP and so on......do not give such reasons to join Congress, Say straigt away you want to become minister.

Mumtaz Ali was just called as " Letter-To-The-Editor" Minister, because he earned place in BJP party just by writing letters to Editors of Kannada News papers mouthing some Sanskrit words and giving quotations from Hindu Texts. No one took him seriously in BJP Govt and every one in BJP knew that he cant even get Ten votes for BJP. Only for fulfilling Minority quota he was taken in BJP and given trivial portfolio. So, BJP will not lose anything if he leaves and Cong will not gain anything by taking him.

We have to have some dramas here and there, it makes our already miserable life more miserable.

It does not matter who leaves the party or who rejoins the party,
who talks in english or who talks in Tamil or Bengali.
After all Indian Politics are theatrical and we the spectators choose the Stars and keep commenting right and left on their performance and nothing else. That is the only satisfaction we are looking for.

It's time to rise against all these foolish political dramas we are witnessing everyday and ask the politicians to pay back all the wealth they have looted belonging to everyone of this nation.

We always hear Ministers\officials charged\arrested, cases booked for various anomalies, fraud of national wealth etc etc. but we never hear anyone genuinely taken to task, penalised and even the basic loss recovered (interest not included).

Then what are these judgements passed, why they are kept in jail and then given bail after a short period. Even after knowing there is fraud, accused are granted bail and they keep enjoying the defrauded wealth during that bail period which may extend to years and years.
The cases never come up for hearing for years together as they are adjourned date after dates.
Everything looks so fishy with our laws which protects only criminals and hence the latest ordinance allowing criminals to continue taking part in country's law making decisions. Sounds very very weird.....

There should be a strict law which will not allow politicians to join any other political party or rejoin the party they had left, for a minimum period of five years..
