Mangalore, Sep 30: Oscar Fernandes Minister for Transport, Road and Highways, Government of India, visited St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT) of St Aloysius College, Mangalore on Sunday September 29.

Fr Denzil, rector of St Aloysius College institutions and the director of AIMIT accorded a floral welcome the Union Minster Oscar and his wife Blossom Fernandes. Fr Pradeep, the administrator of AIMIT, welcomed the minister and appreciated the interest shown by the minister in the welfare of St Aloysius College institutions.

Oscar Fernandes recalled his formative years, those were the hard times where he had to get into a job for mere three rupees per day wage. Though he was not fortunate to have Jesuit Education, he appreciated the good fortune of his siblings to have had a good Jesuit education and securing a first rank in the then Madras University and later being selected  in the Imperial Bank officer rank.

Oscar believes in the concept of teaching so as learn better.  Oscar encouraged St Aloysius to initiate the process of becoming University through MHRD, normal process. I

"f there is some difficulty then we may try to become Minority University as soon as the bill is passed in the parliament," he said

Oscar regretted that none of our Universities are are considered as one among the top 200 Universities in the world, and he said that it is because we lack original research and we do not attract enough of foreign students. Jesuits with our worldwide network should to able to garner this support to get foreign national to our institutes and offer quality education.

He invited everyone to dream big and think of becoming one the best business and IT schools not only in the country but at the global level. He suggested to invite speakers from topmost business schools in the world and give good media coverage. He spoke of e-learning, virtual class room concept.

"Location today is immaterial, people will come in search of quality provide we are good, give good publicity and make our programmes attractive," he said.

Oscar invited students to visit the Parliament Education Bureau, and to take up internship of may be couple of weeks/months in various ministries. He also encouraged to make use of the Parliament Library which is one of best libraries in the world. He suggested around students from St Aloysius to avail this offer and that  he is ready to put in touch with top bureaucrats, industrialists in the country.

'Hard work and Sacrifice pays good dividends' he said and encouraged students to come up the hard way and work for the welfare of the nation.
