Mangalore, Oct 12: In yet another major theft, over Rs 9 lac was stolen from a soap distributors firm at Kallapu here on Thursday October 10.

The theft occured at Marcon Overseas company, wholesalers of Hindustan Lever soap products in Kallapu near Thokkottu.  The company runs on partnership, with Chembugudde Shakir Ahmed as one of the partners.

The marketing staff of the company had collected the amount related to soap distribution on Thursday, October 10 and Shakir Ahmed had kept it in the cupboard.

The office and godown of the company are in the same building. The thieves cut the metal net of the window behind the building on Thursday night.  They subsequently broke open the cupboard drawer and took away Rs 9.24 lac from it.

The thieves also took away CCTV camera, its hard disk and server, besides the punching machine used for staff attendance.

The company has 15 permanent employees and 35 people are employed on contract basis. Police suspect that the theft was committed by insiders.  The organization had incurred loss three months ago due to rain water seepage and now it has to bear the loss of cash, lamented the head of the company.

Ullal police, fingerprint experts and canine squad arrived at the spot to investigate.

A case has been registered in Ullal police station.
