Manila, Oct 19 (IANS): The death toll from Tuesday's magnitude 7.2 earthquake in the Philippines has gone up to 183, the authorities said Saturday.

Around 8,600 homes were destroyed in Quezon city, CNN reported citing officials of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. But the bulk of the casualties were reported from Bohol province, the officials said.

More than 370,000 people were evacuated from their homes in Bohol, according to the council.

Landslides were reported in some areas and nearly 26,000 were damaged, the officials said.

The disaster management agency said that 583 people were injured and 13 were missing after the quake, centered about 620 km south-southeast of the national capital Manila, near Catigbian. The US Geological Survey said its depth was 20 km.
