Bantwal, Oct 23: A huge traffic jam at BC Road that lasted almost the entire day on Wednesday October 23 put commuters in much inconvenience.

While commuters and pedestrians struggled, Bantwal citizens grew exhausted trying to clear the gridlock.

The traffic jam that started in the morning continued till evening. Though there are highways, flyover and service roads in BC Road, the traffic problem persists. As there were occasions such as weddings on Wednesday, the traffic was more than usual.

The traffic jam became worse as everybody tried to go forward like in a competition. Towards the evening, the police got tired clearing the traffic. Though there is provision for one way traffic, the vehicles going to BC Road from Bantwal turning near the circle were the main reason for the traffic jam.

Four to five police constables had to stand there and regulate the traffic. As the traffic increased, police had to struggle till dark.

When VIPs such as ministers or senior police officials are scheduled to travel through the highway, Puttur traffic police get assigned in BC Road to ensure that they do not get stuck in traffic.

A demand for a traffic police station is being heard here for some time. Till then the police that have to maintain law and order are made to clear traffic here.

    I like this.
I appreciate the NHAI and their planning and approving team to contribute such a pathetic, horrible plan for all the flyovers in Dakshina Kannada except Kunitkana Flyover.
This is just the beginning. All the one-way flyovers will create chaos (bottle neck)everyday in our lives.
These are accident prone zones too.
Unless we have well planned 2-way flyovers, this will continue.

@ all who blaming on BJP govt .
the main reason here is because of less widened service road, no proper bus stop for CONTRACT CARRIAGE BUSSES (ramanath rai started this ). nother reason is . the ruling muncipality, karnataka govt & central govt all are congress. this higway project was sanctioned 2004 by vajpaye govt. supposed to be end on 2007 but still under process coz of central congress govt.

BC Road junction is in a total mess!! Considering the dramatic increase in traffic the infrastructure is very much lacking! There is no proper bus shelter, no parking space, no discipline, high risk slope near pvt. bus stand especially for sr. citizens and kids!!

Unless the junction is shifted to a more spacious place expect this sort of logjam frequently!!

MOST OF THE TIME TRAFFIC POLICE SIMPLY WATCH THE SITUATION EVEN IF BUS STOPS AT HIGHWAY THAT TOO BEYOND REQUIRED TIME WAITING FOR PASSENGERS.
IN BYKAMPADY IT IS COMMON EVEN THOUGH THERE IS SUFFICIENT PLACE FOR BUS STOP.
NO TRAFFIC POLICE DARE TO TAKE ON OFFENDERS REASONS BEST KNOWN TO ALL OF US.

This is my usual place whenever I go to India. This mini Bridge was completed just 2-3 years back and taken couple of years. I am not wrong if i say that this bridge and traffic congestion is gift Of BJP Govt. One has to cross examine how many Crores has been spent for the bridge. This is a true symbol of Corruption. So many shops have been taken over by the Govt. to widen the road. But they end up in creating more traffic than before. If one have close look at the bridge it looks like 1000 years old remains and may broke any time if put more pressure. Forget about installing cameras/ fines, but the system and people involved are so inefficient and corrupt that there are no hopes of improvement.

    You are 100% right.
Who is to be blamed. The citizens themselves for voting these corrupt parties. Most of the citizensm first sees who is in their community and they vote. Not for the betterment but for their religion and community. So why complain ?

As long we promote or adopt arrogance, road rage and indiscipline on the road, traffic problems will be there forever. This is nothing to do with any developmental activities but the mentality of our own people on road. In Gulf Countries, even we are scared for line cutting, wrong parking, yellow line, etc just because someone watching me through the traffic police car or video surveillance camera. But in India we never scared for Traffic Police, just because we know very well that once you stopped you have to cough up Hafta even if you have all records and done nothing wrong
