16-yr-old forced to drink alcohol, raped by four

Mumbai, Nov 4 (HT): A 16-year-old girl from Goregaon (East) was allegedly raped by four men after being forced to drink alcohol, on Friday. Two others have been booked for their roles as accomplices.

All the accused, who are in their 20s, have criminal cases against them, the police said.

The survivor, a Class 8 dropout, had known the accused for two years and considered them friends, said Dighambar Dhasine, sub- inspector at Dindoshi police station. “The accused are from the girl’s neighbourhood. We are looking for them,” he said.

The incident took place between 9pm and 11pm on Friday. “Two of the accused called the girl on her phone and asked her to come to the Mhada bridge to celebrate Diwali. She said they forced her to drink beer and four of them raped her,” said a police official.

After the rape, the accused went to a nearby restaurant. While they were eating, the survivor ran away, but kept quiet about the incident.

On Sunday, she broke down and told her family, after which her brother took her to Dindoshi police station where a case of gangrape was registered. Her medical report will be ready on Monday.

The girl’s father died two years ago after which she dropped out of school. A few months later, her mother abandoned her. Since then she has been staying with her brother.

No doubt the accused are the beasts. However, I strongly feel girls need to be alert. She could have taken her brother together when she was asked to come near the bridge. After all Diwali is a festival to be celebrated with family and friends together! Please girls, do not befriend with chali poli boys. Do little home work before deciding to go out with boys. It is very essential for your safety. Ask yourself before, do you have courage to fight any possible physical abuse? If no, do not venture out with inviting boys. If yes, carry some sort of weapons with you and be brave to fight on the spot and do not panic. Having said that, I am not giving excuse for what the boys here have done. They are the dirty creatures, criminals and need to be punished severely. Parents, please show these stories to your sons and ask them not to become like these boys. instill values of life in them so that they show respect to the other gender when they grow up. Keep watch on them to see what type of friends they actually have.

Very sad state of youth in our country. Father died, mother deserted, why did the brother need to keep her ? Could he too not have kicked her out after what happened with her ? Well, I salute the young man for his guts to file a case despite knowing what a humiliation they may have to face hereafter. I salute him - because if he had kept quiet or tried to silence her, the same men would have made her their permanent prostitute !

Let us support them - assuming our own daughters at her place and fight for death penalty to the men involved in this inhuman act.

Only because of such people with heart, the world still runs and works.. Otherwise, it would be the end - time for Lord Vishnu (or any other God)to clean up the Earth completely.
