New Delhi, Apr 8: Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari was on Saturday detained in neighbouring Ghaziabad to prevent him from going to Aligarh to visit the riot-affected areas there.
"We have detained Shahi Imam and couple of his supporters as they were going to visit the riot-affected areas in Aligarh," Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police J N Singh told PTI.
Six persons were killed in Aligarh when members of two communities indulged in firing and pelting stones following a dispute. The members of a particular community had removed the decorations in certain areas on the occasion of 'Ram Navami' and this led to clashes between the two sides on Thursday.
